Dear Readers: PROXIMITY is on vacation (& going through some life changes). Please stay tuned -- we will be back!

Snapshots [beach]

It is nearing sunset on the Gulf. The wind is picking up, and the families who have slathered their babies in sunscreen and shaded themselves with umbrellas and soaked in salt water all day have almost all gone home.

Survivors [independence]

Each week, domestic violence survivors gather for a support group. To an outsider, the successes here can sometimes feel so miniscule, you might wonder why they matter. But they do.

My Toddler Tis of Thee [independence]

Like everything else in life, I planned to pull myself up by the bootstraps and figure motherhood out by instinct. And I didn’t want to hear another word about it.

Gods of Frolic [freestyle: dog park]

A de facto dog park in all respects, it is absolutely unofficial, and technically, illegal.

About Us

Three writers, two countries, one hour. Each week, we choose a different place that exists in each of our three locations: a bus stop, for example, or an emergency room, or a family dinner table.

Over the course of one hour, we find a story. Then we share it with you.

Over the course of one year, these stories will form a collective whole, illuminating the surprising ways in which our worlds are uniquely different and remarkably the same.
